Como Contemporary Festival (2020)-2021

©2019 - Tutti i diritti riservati

The Como Contemporary Festival 2021 aims to be, above all, a meeting moment in which contemporary music crosses and contaminates other art forms, to give life to a unique cycle of events. During the Festival, with the focus always on today’s contemporary music, other forms of artistic expression like photography, sound art, fiber art and poetry accompany the musical compositions, and works composed for the Festival itself are presented and performed in world premières.

The second edition of the Festival renews in location and partnerships and will see the participation of famous artists, the first of whom is Sandro Laffranchini, principal cellist at Teatro Alla Scala, who will perform in the opening concert at the Salon of Villa Olmo in Como. Stefano Cerrato, virtuoso Italian cellist and world known performer, will play solo together with his On the Bridge Cello Ensemble, an ensemble composed by 12 cellists who will perform a repertoire focussing on XX and XXI Centuries music. Guest stars will be also the duo composed by the Teatro alla Scala violinist Fulvio Liviabella and the harpist Federica Sainaghi, who will perform a program of music from various periods and in world première. We’ll see the participation of Alessandro Perini and Sofia Avramidou, who will be hosting a debate/conference on the development of contemporary music and technologies (live electronics and sound art) , and of the contamination of music with other art forms.

Among this year’s partnerships, we’ll be pleased to collaborate with Fondazione Bortolaso-Totaro-Sponga, curator of the Metamorphosis exhibit at Villa Olmo in Como; with the association Arte&Arte, creator of the XXX International Show of Contemporary Art MINIARTEXTIL, and the Museo della Seta (Silk Museum), where the photographic exhibition by the extraordinary artist Marco Frigerio will take place.

Another precious collaboration will be with Mantero 1902, historic textile firm and flagship of the textile production of Como who will manufacture unique silk garments representing the Festival logo, centred on the word COMO, designed for the Festival by the architects Bonetti-Gravic and strongly in line with Terragni’s rationalism, a symbol of Como city and its lake.

On top of this important network of international relations, we’ll have as President of the Jury of the International Composition Competition “Appassionato Ensemble” – an initiative that so far has involved 350 composers from more than 40 countries in the world – Maestro Alessandro Solbiati, an internationally renowned composer. The Competition will avail itself also this year of the collaboration with Edizioni Sconfinarte to publish the winning score.

All of this is made possible thanks to the contributes of Regione Lombardia, of the PIC Piano Integrato della Cultura “Un Tesoro di Territorio” – a biennial program of the cultural district of Lake Como, funded by Regione Lombardia and coordinated and supported by Camera di Commercio di Como-Lecco -, of Comune di Como (Como Municipality) and of Cassa Rurale ed Artigiana di Cantù, our official sponsor for this year.

The second edition of the Como Contemporary Festival will take place in a period of time that stretches over several months, with events happening in various moments of the year, and configures almost as a music season. After a long period of suspension of all activities, for the reasons we all know, we decided to keep the lights on for a longer period of time to prolong together with the public the contact with music, culture and art, and to spread more widely the passion and love for art. The opening of the Festival will be on May 22, 2021, at Villa Olmo, and the Final Concert of the 5th Edition of the International Composition Competition Appassionato Enseble will be on December 12, 2021, at the Silk Museum in Como (Museo della Seta).

The entrance will be allowed only with an online booking, due to anti-Covid-19 rules, writing to info@polifonie.it
